  • I have a friend up here who's resolution this year was to only drink fair trade coffee.

The combination of these things (this poem, and their resolution) has got me thinking whether it's something that I could maybe do more about. More awareness of where our beans come from, the people who play a part of getting this treat to us.

I think this scenario sort of sums up this nation. We run around clutching a takeaway coffee in our hand because we're so "busy" doing stuff. Completely unaware of the possibility that slaves have picked these beans. It's not an intentionally malicious act, but would people be so eager to buy this coffee knowing the process??

    Unintentionally neglectful.

  • Great poem, Andrew! As a coffee-lover it is great to know what some organisations, like La Mai are doing to stop human trafficking. Keep up your writing!
